4.8M Blinds Recalled After 2 Children Died from Accidental Strangulation
August 26, 2009
Following the death of two children due to accidental strangulation on cords, Lewis Hyman Inc. recalled at least 4.2 million roll-up blinds and another 600,000 Woolrich Roman shades blind which were sold at retail giant Target from 2006 to 2008.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warn consumers to stop using roll-up blinds which do not have release clips and immediately contact the company [(877) 352-5457]to fixed the flawed design.
According to its website, the consumer agency said accidental strangulation with a roll-up blind may occur if a child will place his neck between the roll-up blind material and the lifting loop.
In Roman shades, the CPSC said fatal entanglement to a child may happen if he pulls out the cord and wraps it around his neck or if he places his neck between the fabric on the backside of the blind and the exposed inner cord.
These window blinds were made from China.
