PRODUCT RECALL: Beef Products Recalled Due to Possible E. coli Contamination
February 6, 2011
Washington – The US Department of Agriculture has ordered for the recall of more than 3,000 pounds of ground beef products made by a California-based company which were believed to be contaminated with E. coli bacteria, the agency said Saturday.
American Food Service of Pico Rivera, California is recalling their ground beef patties and other ground beef products that were produced on January 31. The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the USDA became aware of the problem after being contacted by a federal-regulated establishment who believed to have received the suspect product.
The products subject to recall have the establishment number EST. 1913 inside the USDA mark of inspection, and include 10 to 20-pound cases of beef patties and 60-pound cases of lean taco grind ground beef. These were sent to restaurants in Southern California.
The bacteria E. coli can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and even kidney failure. Babies, elderly people, and people with weak immunity can easily be affected by it.
It is not yet clear whether or not someone has already been sickened by the recalled products.
