Driver Indicted in Teen’s Death in Road Accident

Huntington Beach - A man who is suspected of being under the influence and texting when he fatally smashed into a 14 year-old boy will be arraigned after the indictment of the Orange County Grand Jury earlier in the month.

Jeffrey Woods, 21, is scheduled to go into a not guilty plea to one felony of driving under the influence and causing a bodily injury as well as one felony count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence while he was intoxicated.

The indictment is the latest development in the case that started with a police investigation on Aug. 29, 2007, at the northwest corner of Everglades Lane and Indianapolis Avenue. That According to police, Wood drove the truck he was riding in into a teenager named Danny Oates. The victim was riding his bike when the incident transpired.

According to a statement released by the District Attorney’s office, Woods is accused of driving under the influence of Xanax and Vicodin.

Wood will face ten years imprisonment if convicted of all charges.
