PRODUCT RECALL: NJ Company Recalls Ground Beef

January 11, 2011

Washington DC – A New-Jersey based company sold in Oregon and California selling ground beef products has recalled its products after consumers complained of discoloration and unpleasant smell, the United States Department of Agriculture announced Monday.

According to the agency, more than 230,000 pounds of ground beef were returned to manufacturer One Great Burger. The recalled products were repackaged and recoded to be marketed to prisoners in Oregon and California.

The USDA press release did not state which institutions to be exact. A spokesman from the company alleges that the beef was not distributed to retailers.

The beef were repacked in 20-pound boxes between January and May 2010, and packed-on dates between July and November 2010. The boxes were labeled ONEGREAT HAMBURGERS and had ITEM #02044 on the front of the box.
