Police Veteran Dies in Hit-and-Run Case

A retired official of the Azusa Police department was fatally wounded Saturday morning after a wrong-way driver struck him head-on. The driver then took off, leaving the victim to die, the California Highway Patrol said.
Randall Phillips, 55, died at the scene at around 6:30 a.m.
Reports indicate that Phillips was heading west along 60 Freeway on his motorcycle when he was fatally hit by a wrong-way driver in a transition road leading North of 71 Freeway.
The unidentified driver managed to flee the scene but later left his damaged vehicle in a nearby street.
The 29-year veteran is survived by his wife and daughter as police continue to conduct further investigation regarding the accident.
