Rico Queso recalled for Salmonella
January 7, 2010
Washington – The US Food and Drug Administration has announced the other day that there were no reported illnesses of consumers who purchased Rico Queso duro blanco (white hard cheese).
The announcement came after the agency ordered the recall of the 16 ounce packages which were suspected to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product is being distributed by Flores Food of America.
The contamination was discovered after the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services conducted a test. Since then the production was halted.
They are currently investigating where the Salmonella came from. It may cause fever, diahrrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It also causes Inflammatory Bowel Disease, arterial infections, arthritis (Reiter’s Syndrome) and endocarditis.
Consumers were advised to return the product where they bought it for a full refund. They may also contact Rico Queso at 1-561-541-5206.
