Teen Crashes Porche, Suspected of Drunk Driving

Costa Mesa - Dominick Anthony McCoy, 18 years old is now facing driving under the influence (DUI) charges after injuring himself and his passenger when he crashed overturned his vehicle near a freeway on-ramp on Wednesday evening.
The 1996 blue Porsche Carrera driven by McCoy was sighted speeding south on Bear Street and Paularino Avenue. The car apparently struck an electrical box, went through a freeway sign and came to rest about 20 feet later on the on-ramp from Bear to the northbound 73.
McCoy sustained a deep cut in his scalp and car passenger, Dorothy Dunlap, 38 years old from Newport Beach, also sustained injuries. Dunlap had multiple abrasions.
McCoy and Dunlap were treated at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. The Costa Mesa police arrested McCoy for DUI and before getting released to the hospital staff.
California has two basic drunk driving laws, found in Vehicle Code section 23152, sections (a) and (b):
- It is a misdemeanor to drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. (23152(a))
- It is a misdemeanor to drive with .08% or more of alcohol in your blood. (23152(b))
Depending on the severity of the crash, DUI drivers may have their licenses suspended or jail, fine, or other criminal penalty can be imposed.
