Teen Cyclist killed when Struck by two Vehicles

Fullerton, CA - A 17-year-old teen cyclist died after was hit by two vehicles while he was riding his bicycle, police stated.
According to Lt. Tom Basham of the Fullerton police, Daniel Torres, who is a resident of Fullerton, rode out of an alley and into northbound traffic on Mongolia Avenue, which is near Orangethorpe Avenue.
Meanwhile, Traffic Investigator Brandon Clyde said that the cyclist and his 13-year-old younger brother were riding home because after they rented a movie.
Clyde said “they were trying to get home to make popcorn”.
According to Clyde, Torres was behind his brother, who was able to safely make it out into Magnolia and made a broad right had turn to return onto the curb.
However, although Torres was able to make it out into the street, he was struck by a Toyota sedan that has been traveling northbound in the left lane. The cyclist was thrown off the bicycle that he was riding on.
Torres was almost immediately hit by a Chevy Trailblazer that was also traveling in the No.1 lane, after he was struck by the first vehicle, said Clyde.
Clyde added that the teen instantly died due to severe head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet when the incident occurred.
The drivers of the vehicles were questioned and released.
The investigation of the police regarding the incident is still ongoing.
