Two People Injured When Traffic Inexplicably Stops

September 23, 2009

North County - At least two people sustained injuries when a motorcycle and two cars collided on southbound Interstate 15, north of state Route 76, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported.

CHP Officer Eric Newbury said the traffic stopped for mysterious reasons.

Although a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by a 31-year-old man from Temecula was able to completely stop, a 1993 Nissan Maxima being driven by an 18-year-old man from Temecula was not able to do so. As a result, the Nissan ran into the Malibu.

The Maxima was then hit by a 2001 Honda 600X causing the motorcycle’s driver to be thrown into the muck of the center divider. The 33-year-old rider from Oceanside was hospitalized due to fractured wrist and pelvis.

The Malibu driver was not hospitalized though he sustained minor injuries.

Newbury said the freeway remained open after the incident, even when the traffic piled up due to curious motorists.
